FAQ

Is there an option for interchangeable straps?

No. Initial plans were to have the bracelet interchangeable to leather straps. Unfortunately with this approach, despite numerous design options explored, it created a slight but unsightly gap between the case and strap. Aesthetics won out and Metropolitan moved forward with the metal bracelet only.

Why Miyota 9015 movement?

We wanted a slim, accurate and reliable movement that allowed for an overall watch height under 11mm, to fit easily under shirt cuffs. With the sandwich dial and generous layering of Super-LumiNova, this required a movement under 4mm thick.
All available options from Swiss movements such as ETA or Selitta to Japanese movements like Miyota or Seiko were considered. All are quality workhorses and will, no doubt, be reliable for many years.
With that, with the significant difference in price between Japanese and Swiss and with many in the watch community now backing the quality of Japanese movements, a Japanese movement was preferred.
Both Miyota and Seiko are prestigious movement makers.  Seiko movements were appealing due to significantly lower costs, however the movements are larger and would compromise Metropolitan's slim lines.
Ultimately, Miyota 9015 was the only choice.  The slimmest of the Japanese options, the 28,800 vibrations per hour allow for greater precision and accuracy in time-keeping and results in a really smooth sweep of the second hand.

Will you be making a smaller size?

The Metropolitan is not a small watch.  We understand 44mm seems big for some.
There is a careful balance of retro and modern design in The Metropolitan.  While the cushion case is of 1920s in style, the size is of modern influence (See popular models from Panerai, Hublot, Audemars Piguet and IWC).
Where the design is elegant, the size is masculine.  Though refined, we don’t want The Metropolitan to be described as ‘delicate’.
As there are no chunky numbers or oversized details, and everything is in careful proportion, The Metropolitan doesn’t look oversized on the wrist.
On a 6.5 inch wrist, the watch sits very comfortably with no ‘overhang’.

Can I expect this watch to last?

We focused on heirloom quality and build when we designed the Metropolitan, with the aim to create a watch to be passed on for generations.
The movement features shock absorption to protect your watch from damage when dropped, and is from a popular brand so it can be easily serviced by any good watch repairer.
Case and bracelet are Grade 316L Surgical Stainless Steel.  The steel of choice for biomedical applications, 316L Stainless Steel is also regarded as the standard “marine grade stainless steel” as its low carbon content delivers increased corrosion resistance.
The links are a refined satin hand brush with a contrasting brush on the middle links.  Polished links were ruled out both for personal preference as well as issue of maintenance and durability.
The watch face and exhibition back are protected with sapphire crystal glass, the most desirable for luxury watchmakers as it is the least prone to scratch or shatter.
Your Metropolitan will just need a little TLC like any other premium or luxury watch during wear.

Where is it made?

The movement from Japan, the Super-LumiNova from Switzerland and the local components of the Metropolitan are brought together in a workshop in Southern China near the border of Hong Kong.
Many certified 'Swiss Made' watches are simply polished and assembled in Switzerland from parts made in these same workshops in China.  We are more than confident in the ability of these highly experienced manufacturers, who are held to rigorous quality standards and have been in the industry for many decades, to assemble these same components into a high quality watch.
Each Metropolitan watch is calibrated and tested first in the factory and then once again when it arrives in Hong Kong.
